    There are two main solutions for that. One is to develop new battery technologies, such as solid-state batteries;the other is to upgrade the electrical architecture of EV from 400v to 800v.

    Traditional cars have basic electronic equipment with a voltage architecture of 12V and are equipped with 12V lead-acid batteries for vehicle lighting, etc. While ev has such a 12v architecture too. Meanwhile, the power come from another lithium-ion battery packs, which consist of thousands of cells.

    In case that you have a better understand about the charging experience. We will use a 125kw, 200A dc charger as a demonstration. Let's compare two EVs being charged: one with a 400V architecture and the other with an 800V architecture.

    Power (W) = Volts (V) x Amperes (A). Ignoring the charging speed curve, when charging an 800V vehicle, 125kW/800V=156.25 A. The rated current of the cable is less than 200A, and the vehicle can fully utilize the 125kW charging power.

    When charging a 400V vehicle, 125kW/400V=312.5 A, which exceeds the rated value of the 200A cable. At this time, the transmission power = 400Vx200A, which is only 80kW.

    125kw VS 80KW, Obviously that 800v ev can get much more power in the same charging time.

    Charging speed:

    400V: Peak power is limited by current (such as Tesla V3 supercharger 250kW);

    800V: Directly increase power through high voltage. Porsche Taycan can reach 270kW at 800V supercharger (such as IONITY), and charging from 5% to 80% takes only 22 minutes.

    Range:

    800v: less components light weight, and the CLTC distance of Xiaopeng G9 is increased by about 5-7%;

    Lightweight:

    lower current and high voltage cable can be used. For example, the cable weight of Hyundai IONIQ 5 is reduced by about 30%.

    High-voltage design:

    Voltage level: It needs to support 800-1000V high voltage (the ordinary 400V cable withstands about 500-600V), the insulation layer is thicker, and the material has stronger resistance to electrical breakdown.

    Safety redundancy: 20-30% voltage margin is reserved during design to prevent leakage caused by aging after long-term use.

    Low impedance and high temperature resistance:

    Conductor material: Use high-purity copper or silver-plated copper wire to reduce resistance (800V system current is smaller, but loss still needs to be reduced).

    Temperature resistance level: Long-term tolerance of 105℃-125℃ (ordinary cables are about 90℃), and the cable temperature can be controlled during extreme fast charging.

    Lightweight and flexible:

    Wire diameter optimization: Because the current is halved (under the same power), the conductor cross-sectional area can be reduced, and the cable is lighter (for example, the Porsche Taycan charging cable is 15% lighter than the traditional cable).
